Put It In OverDrive

Would you like to save a tree, download a book, a video or listen to music for free from the comfort of your home, office or favorite coffeehouse?

If you have a current Buffalo and Erie County Public Library card then you can do all of the above. If you don’t have a current library card then you SHOULD apply for one immediately.

is a digital media source of ebooks, audiobooks, music and video. This nifty resource is available through The Buffalo and Erie County Public Libraries “Downloads To Go” as well as libraries throught out the US.

The OverDrive Media Console is a free software download which permits the user to browse through available titles and download materials to his or her computer with a current library card. The software is compatible for both Windows and Mac operating systems. I’m a Mac girl and I must tell you that there are more choices available for Windows platforms than for Mac but the selections are worthwhile and updated often.

ODMC also allows you to transfer materials to an MP3 format or burn to a disc for your personal use. The site provides you with a timeframe/expiration date within to download your selected materials. You generally have seven days to complete a download. I recently downloaded a copy of “Ethan Frome” by Edith Wharton while sipping a coffee at The Comfort Zone. The download was relatively quick and later that evening I enjoyed listening to it while folding a load of laundry.

This link is worth a look if you want to take advantage of some of the digital media available at your community library. Perhaps your schedule and the library’s hours of operation conflict. You can browse and download ANY time, day or night. I love convenience!

Try it; you might like it. It’s free. I like free, don’t you?
